Dr. Raj Nath Bhat is a linguist. Born at Fohar, Anantnag district, J&K
U.T on 26th October 1956, he did his Master’s and Doctorate in
Linguistics from Kurukshetra University. Subsequently, he joined Tamil
University, Thanjavur as a Senior Fellow. After returning to Kurukshetra
University as a UGC Research Associate, he became a lecturer, and subsequently a
reader in linguistics. He obtained another MA & Ph.D in Hindi literature from
Kurukshetra University. With Kashmiri as mother tongue, he knows Hindi, Urdu,
and English and has a survival understanding of Tamil language. He has taught at
Kurukshetra University, University of Asmara (Africa) and BHU. Presently, he is
Professor & Head, Department of Linguistics, Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi,
India.
