The Indian Institute of Language Studies (IILS) was established on the 26th January, 1980. It was later registered as a Trust at Jammu vide Registration No. 38/820B dated December 29, 2000. The main functions of the IILS include the promotion and development of Indian languages; providing facilities for research and study of languages, linguistics, literature, and culture; and setting up of libraries and Study Centres for public at different places. The IILS has set up Regional Study Centres, and Centres for Communication Skills in Bhubaneswar, Delhi, Jammu, Mysore, Nagpur, and Patiala. The broad aims and objectives of the IILS, its current academic activities, projects, publications and programmes are provided on this site.
